Anita Pugh is equally at ease creating corporate development programs, writing books and manuals, leading workshops and coaching one-on-one in difficult management situations. Anita began her human resources career with a chance 2-week assignment at This End Up Furniture Company that evolved into becoming the Vice President of Human Resources there. The retailer/manufacturer forged a steady growth pattern including more than 200 locations and 2,000 employees. The match for Anita’s talent and interests was so compelling that she guided the selection, growth and development of the associates for 20 years. Of course her department also provided employee services such as benefits, record keeping, and compliance functions in a typical human resources department, but even as the department performed those important functions, the focus was always on the success of the people that led to the success of the company.

Her next human resources position was with Wachovia, a large financial corporation where, in addition to the job responsibilities outlined for the department, she specialized in the coaching and guidance of difficult employee relations issues.

An opportunity to lead the education and communication momentum of a turnaround company’s culture shift enticed her away from the large corporate environment. Storehouse, a furniture retailer, offered an outlet for her talent and experience in developing a culture focused on people and profit. As director of communications and development she created and implemented the company programs equipping the managers with the skills to lead a relationship-based culture. Through this training she impacted the relationships between manager and associate, peer and peer, associate and customer. These relationship skills focused the entire company on the customer and resulted in increased revenue and profit.

Anita’s development program included a wide array of education topics, all created in-house and taught through workshops and training manuals:

  • Change Management
  • Communication Styles
  • Conflict Management
  • Leadership Styles
  • Values-based Management
  • Coaching skills
  • Accountability
  • Selecting and Hiring Associates
  • Customer Service
  • Selling Skills
  • Design Skills
  • Creativity
  • Soothing Angry People
  • Difficult Conversations

Her ability to deliver a message through a creative and fun approach ensures that the participants are involved in their own growth and that the learning goes forward to make a positive change in their careers.

Anita will tell you that she is experiencing her third childhood, the second having been through her children, and now through her grandchildren’s activities.

Following her interest in developing people through communication, influence and innovative research, she earned her undergraduate degree in education and her master’s in the field of library science. She is an avid reader, writer and will also admit to being a reluctant exercise practitioner.

As a consultant at HB2 Resources, Anita has the chief responsibility for the writing and delivery of sales, management and cultural development programs.
