Chris Matthies is a veteran retail manager highly regarded for her expertise in sales leadership and people development. She has dedicated her 25 year career to people-centered pursuits always aspiring to move individuals, teams and companies forward in achieving their goals.

After traveling the continental United Sates and Hawaii as a navy wife, Chris began her business career as a part-time sales associate for the national furniture retailer, This End Up. She quickly realized that the culture of This End Up valued many of her interests and she remained for 17 years progressing from part-time sales to store manager, district manager and head of the training and development department. During her career at This End Up, she led profitable sales teams, coached and mentored associates at all levels of employment, developed programs and workshops for all departments; sales, manufacturing, distribution and support. Her unique approach to developing people through their strengths created a non-threatening and fun learning environment. Keeping her eye firmly on moving people and processes forward, Chris earned the company’s highest recognition, the President’s Award, for exemplifying company culture.

Her next position was with a financial company as head of training where she put her talent as a collaborative communicator to work acting as an internal consultant to the executive team in diagnosing needs and developing programs to meet those needs.

In 2001, Chris joined the executive team at Storehouse, a contemporary lifestyle furniture retailer. As Vice President of Stores she was instrumental in helping to revitalize a venerable but lagging brand. All areas of the business and culture were examined and fresh ideas adopted. Her department led the company in organizing collaborative teams to develop new processes and programs. Focusing her team on improving selling skills, developing leadership traits, enhancing their communication effectiveness and keeping the customer experience “front and center” resulted in increased sales and profits.
